為了推動工研院日本地區之業務，於1987年7月成立日本辦事處。主要關鍵作為是以開發者、促動者、連結者、加強者等角色，運用多元的方式，積極並機動的開拓與維繫台日之間產官學研交流業務，並建構台日科技創新研發平台，促動產業連結。

Services 業務内容

• Promote the cooperation with industrial and academic institutions between Taiwan and Japan: By our platform, we support the exchange of latest creative technology and connect the industry development with the Japanese industry.
• Provide information about Taiwan’s industry in response to inquiries from industrial, governmental, and academic entities in Japan.
• Promotion of ITRI’s R&D Achievements.
• Promote exchange of technical information, personnel, and collaborative R&D with universities, research and industrial institutions, and business corporations in Japan.
• Represent ITRI to promote the transition of industrial technologies and R&D investments between Taiwan and Japan.
• Assist Taiwan Government in exchange or transit technologies with industry in Japan.
• Provide ITRI’s other services.
• 台日産官学連携業務の推進：台日技術研究開発のイノベーションプラットフォームとして、主に技術開発と産業連携の支援
